MOUNTING DUAL OXYGEN SENSORS ON A RGU

This is a damn fool project. No one in their right mind would do this. If you repeat this you are a fool and will probably die using your creation, leaving some very unhappy loved ones. I did this just for the experience and to solve the technical problems. Everyone that I talk with says this unit is a piece of junk and should not be used as a life support system. Experimental life systems can be deadly. You have been warned. I will probably use the grown up version a couple of times, take some pictures and take the thing apart.

One of the problems with a RGU becoming a "grown up rebreather" is the lack of oxygen sensors. In an earlier project for my test bed I built a dual oxygen system with an otterbox to hold the displays. In this project, I use the dual displays with the RGU.

Everything but the snaps and sensors came from Lowes. The only tools used were a drill and saw. From right to left in this unpainted holder, you can see a cutoff 1 inch pvc pipe cap, a one inch pvc "T", and another one inch pipe cap. Thin wall low pressure pvc is used as the connector pipe. A half inch section was cut for each cap. The cap on the right was glued in. The cap on the left snaps in place with an "o" ring around the pipe forcing it to seat against the cap and the "T". Stainless steel snaps squash the "o" ring. To the far left is the inlet hose for air, nitrox, or trimix

A little sanding on the inside with a drum sander (from Harbor Freight) allows the sensors to slide in easily. The business ends of the sensors face each other at the side opening of the "T". I shortened the inlet of one sensor and cut the other in half to allow air from the counterlung to get inside. A 1/4 inch tubing barb is used for the tubing to the otterbox.
